This timeline was only shared in emails in response to public inquiries and was never posted in such detail publicly on the City of Bend website.

  • 40 applications received (Closed April 17th)
  • 19 telephone interviews (Week of April 27th)
    • 20 minutes with each candidate
    • Content: General fit for the position, including key motivation for applying
    • Panelists: City Manager’s Office, Bend Police Department
  • 8 virtual interviews (Week of May 18th)
    • 30 minutes
    • Content: Ethics, Community Partnerships, Change Management, Research/Knowledge of Department
    • Panelists: From the City Manager’s Office, Bend Police Department, Legal Department , Fire Department, Redmond Police Department, Bethlehem Inn
  • 2 virtual Town Halls- June 18th
    • Bend Police Department Employee Town Hall
      • Over 60 attended
      • 20 minutes for each candidate, including a 5 minute introduction and 15 minutes for Q&A
    • Community Town Hall
      • Over 70 attended (100 individuals invited from over 40 organizations)
      • 10 minute introductions for each candidate
      • Pre-set interview questions selected from over 30 submissions from invitees, 2 minute responses per candidate (1 hour total)
      • 20 minutes of Q&A from attendees
  • 5 Finalists Interviews- June 19th
    • 1 hour with each candidates
    • Content: DEI, visionary collaboration, progressive/innovative approaches to policing, communication and leadership styles, ethics, conflict management, employee relations
